QuickBooks Error code 1328 indicates the problem when repairing QuickBooks, or opening QuickBooks after installing the latest update for a previous QuickBooks version on the same system. You get an error message:
“Error 1328: Applying patch to file C:\config.msi\PT30E.tmp or Error 1328: Applying patch to file C:\config.msi\PT583.”
It signifies that it has been updated by other means, and further cannot be modified by this patch. The reason for the occurrence of the error is the .tmp files in the config.msi folder prevent QuickBooks from finishing the repair or update. The config.msi folder is a temporary repository for storing scripts that are needed to rollback an installation if it fails. After the application is installed correctly, the contents of this folder are deleted. Sometimes this content cannot be removed, causing problems with QuickBooks ability to repair or update itself.
Another possible cause for this error can be installing a version (for example: QuickBooks 2007) with a different license number than the 2007 version that is currently installed.
